Museums are taking note as well. One of his cofee tables has found
a home in Sammlung Falckenberg, a private museum in Hamburg,
Germany.

His designs are inspired by everything from the fabled Bauhaus, to simple
ideas such as word play, explains Eicke, whose "t" (tea) table is not only
intended as a pun for "cofee table," but is shaped as the letter "t."
Eicke's interest in design began when he was a student at the Ross
School in East Hampton, but he originally planned to become an architect. "It was more of an unexpected chain of events," he explains.

Eicke says he is also inspired by new manufacturing capabilities that
allow him to stretch the limits of materials he uses. "The Panther," a
dining table made of carbon fber, Kevlar and titanium is light enough
for one person to carry, but strong enough to stand on. The idea, he
notes, was to design a table that was not only lightweight, but also
looked that way. The Panther, a 13-limited edition made in Germany, is
available for $68,000.
