Clementine Hunter painted scores of works that included African-American angels. She believed,
partly from her Christian teachings and partly a result of remnants of spiritual Africanisms, that
we are surrounded by angels and spirits some good, some bad. Clementine imagined focks of
angels in fight with hair blowing high in the winds that surround us.
