Ross in 1991 to provide students K–12 with an integrated global perspective for a rapidly changing and interconnected world. Below is the senior project of Geige Silver, described in her own words. I designed and created a collection of 12 garments from unusual materials, such as food, shotgun shells and paper. The inspiration was three global issues: challenges facing developing countries, 21st century war and famine. After creating these pieces, I further expressed my more conceptual ideas on these issues through photos. I thought that by using items that relate to the issues (like condoms in the case of HIV/AIDs awareness), it would connect the clothing back to its original meaning. I have designed and created clothing before and, for my senior project, decided to use dresses as the medium. My goal was to use fashion as not only an art form but as a means of promoting social change. www.ross.org/seniorproject 8 | SUMMER 2013 | FAIRWEATHER ✹ The Guild Hall in East Hampton will screen two documentary films written and directed by acclaimed documentarian, Lana Jokel.
