OUTLOOK The White House Is Calling! Best Place to Enjoy a Cup of Cofee "Sunrise at the Montauk Jetty" Montauk, New York, USA Submit your best-quality photos and a one-line description of your favorite place to enjoy a cup of cofee at www.fairweathermagazine.com and we will select a few to include in our next issue. Having received an invitation from the White House, we packed up and headed to D.C. The day (June 5) was balmy and pleasant, so we were already in good spirits as we subjected ourselves to the very secure security at the White House. The chandeliers were sparkling, the food divine, the music enjoyable, the staf pleasant and attentive. Mrs. Obama was charming, welcoming, and quite sympathetic to my dilemma of having to choose between my two daughters, because I could bring only one guest. Having two daughters herself, she understood the difculty of this situation. However, being a resourceful woman and mother, she gave me a hug and said, "You'll just have to come again." As my daughter and I looked out the window across the green lawn, I thought, all is well in the White House. Now if only we could figure out how to run the government as efciently as the White House. I am hoping that Michelle will invite me again, that my other daughter will be able to attend, and that we women can talk about how we can cunningly move the bureaucracy of government in a direction that will ensure that all Americans can enjoy a life as delightful as a day in the White House. —Isabella Ascott THE US OPEN is more than a place to see tennis. It's also where fashionistas strut their stuf in some of summer's hottest fashion trends. Here are some of this year's must-haves. These tweed, wedge-heeled shoes with crisscross ankle bands (John-Michel Cazabat Fela Canvas Espadrille Wedge Sandals in Bone, $295) pair perfectly with white skinny jeans (Hudson Jeans, Nico Skinny, $145), a floral boatneck top (Alice + Olivia Rosie Embroidered Boatneck Overlay Peplum Top, $385), fedora (Eugenia Kim, Bianca feather-trimmed straw fedora, $340), gold bracelets (ABS by Allen Schwartz Jewelry Embellished Bangle Bracelet Set/Nude, $65), black drop earrings (Ralph Lauren, Gold & Onyx Drop Earring, $495) and a vibrant-colored tote bag (Rebecca Minkof Tote— MAB in Sea Green, $295). And, the espadrilles also complement short and form-fitting dresses (10 Crosby Derek Lam, Striped Tulip Dress, $495). A heavenly match. —Liz Kobak, who holds the title of United States' No. 1 junior tennis player and WTA rankings No. 570 singles, 660 doubles. Liz looks forward to exchanging fashionable outfit ideas with you at this year's US Open. 6 | SUMMER 2013 | FAIRWEATHER FROM TOP: COURTESY LUKE McCARRON; BIGSTOCK; JOHN-MICHEL CAZABAT Game, Set, (Fashion) Match
