P: Have you started on the Jesus project? R: I have started to write. That's the main thing I'm doing in Tuscany. I give it one year, and my expectations for it. I believe I visited Berlin before it became what it is now…in 2000. And I remember I saw a show about Jesus. In this story, there is a fgure in history and nobody ever proved what is Jesus, even his existence. It is a way of dealing with spiritual life, because Jesus is in a way like a metaphor. Jesus in the 20th century began to be questioned in the history of art, and once shown as a girl, gay, an animal, or whatever…the way I will deal with Jesus is something that has never been before. I'm researching this diferent type of reality that light is giving, ofering. So the night photography is exposing a reality that we cannot really see…a new dimension. For example, Jesus is a philosophical light, he gives spiritual light to many people. It's a spiritual light, and this spiritual light is ofering a reality, which is a unique reality, interpreted in diferent ways by diferent people. P: The concept that you are Jewish is really interesting and Jesus was Jewish. R: It's my way to see Jesus. Through my experience, it's not like I wake up and say I love Jesus. 'I'm researching this diferent type of reality that light is giving, ofering. So the night photography is exposing a reality that we cannot really see…a new dimension.' Trees Enlightenment of Dreams, 2011. Photographic print, 63x87 inches. P: People refer to you as Jesus? R: Yeah, they refer me to him and him to me. It even saved my life. I was in Cuba and I was stuck in the middle of nowhere in the mountains and I was nearby a very frightening city and we looked to fnd a place and they started to do voodoo, so I ran away. P: That's good. That's smart. R: I was walking through and I found a convent with nuns. I said "I'm coming from Israel, look at me, I look like Jesus. I don't know if I'm his cousin or relative, look at me. They were so excited.' P: What did they do? R: Prudence, they let me have the best room. P: Great story! Looking forward to seeing the new project. R: Amazing chat! So happy that you lost your virginity. P: On Skype and with you… FAIRWEATHER | SUMMER 2013 | 51
